Weak pelvic floor muscles
The pelvic floor muscles are responsible for supporting the bladder, urethra, uterus, and rectum. Weakening of these muscles can occur due to various factors such as pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, obesity, and aging.
Increased pressure on the bladder
Activities that increase pressure on the bladder such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, or exercise can cause the bladder to leak urine when the pelvic floor muscles are weak.
Involuntary urine leakage
In SUI, the weakened pelvic floor muscles cannot hold the bladder tightly, causing urine to leak involuntarily during activities that increase pressure on the bladder.
